Finding my stride
Bobbie, treating GPP with SPEVIGO
As a wife, mom, and teacher, I take pride in being able to handle it all. Whether it’s the chaos of a busy classroom or chasing after my granddog, I always carry on. I’m naturally an introvert, but I live my life to the fullest! My husband and I are happiest when we’re going for walks, kayaking, enjoying the beauty of the water, and being physically active.
Yet, for nearly 20 years, I struggled with GPP.
My symptoms started with a burning sensation, followed by redness, itching, and pustules. I stopped kayaking, as being in the water made me fearful of getting an infection or making the pustules worse. Living in the South, the heat just made the constant itching worse.
I met with so many different dermatologists, but none had a clear diagnosis. I tried countless treatments
— light therapy, laser therapy, different medicines — yet I still had symptoms.
However, I refused to give up. I’m like a dog with a bone — if I want something, I go after it.
I researched online and read as many stories as I could to find out what this was. I traveled to several cities to meet with different doctors. Finally, I found a doctor who was able to help. It was like a light bulb. She knew exactly what it was. After everything I had been through, I knew I wanted a medicine that was specific for GPP. We decided on SPEVIGO.
I’ve learned that consistent treatment is important for my symptoms, so I have monthly SPEVIGO injections.
I just started a few months ago and, so far, I’ve had no flares. After all these years, I finally feel a sense of relief.
I haven’t seen pustules or redness. I’m not consumed by burning and itching.
Throughout all of this, the SPEVIGO nurse educators have been great. They contact me, make sure I get my medication, ask me how I’m doing … I’ve got a lot of support.
My perspective on GPP has changed.
I used to feel like it was holding me back in life, and now I feel more like myself, able to do the things I love — like kayaking with my husband!
My advice to others living with GPP is never give up, even in the most challenging times. Just keep going!
Individual results may vary based on many factors, including elements like the severity of your GPP, your treatment plan, and any other conditions you may have. Bobbie has been compensated for the time spent to share her story.
